"When I moved into a third-floor flat in Alfama, the plumber lifted a floorboard and found a bundle of letters from the 1950s, all to a woman called Amelia, all from a sailor who never signed his name. I never learned how their story ended, so I wrote twelve possible endings. This is the album I made of them, with my band and a few friends from the neighbourhood."
