West Valley City Residents Fight to Save The Ridge Golf Club (2025)

A beloved golf course in West Valley City, Utah, is at the center of a community debate, with residents fighting to preserve a cherished local landmark.

The Ridge Golf Club, a haven for golfers for decades, is facing an uncertain future as city officials consider potential redevelopment of the land.

Steve Beck, a retiree and long-time resident of West Valley City, expresses his disbelief and concern. "I can't fathom anyone even considering taking it away. It's simply mind-boggling," he says.

On a quiet day at The Ridge, golfers like Rick Kitchens enjoy their regular rounds, but there's an underlying worry. Kitchens, a regular at the course since the 90s, fears the loss of this "slice of heaven."

The Ridge Club, originally named West Ridge Golf Club, opened its doors in 1991. For Kitchens, it's a special place where he meets friends three times a week.

Sam Johnson, a spokesperson for West Valley City, explains that the city is conducting a land survey to explore potential uses for the nearly 200-acre property. However, Johnson assures that any decision will be made with the best interests of the residents in mind.

But here's where it gets controversial... Kitchens questions the potential trade-off: "I want West Valley to thrive, but not at the cost of future generations."

And this is the part most people miss... The Ridge Golf Club is more than just a course; it's a community gathering spot. Beck emphasizes, "This is a first-class golf course that should stay right here for generations to come."

As the city's survey progresses, residents plan to make their voices heard at city council meetings, determined to keep their golf course intact.

What do you think? Should The Ridge Golf Club be preserved, or is redevelopment the way forward? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
