Tommy Fury confirms boxing comeback as Love Island star announces return date (2025)

Tommy Fury has announced his comeback to the boxing ring this May. He's set to make his return in Budapest on May 9, marking almost two years since he last stepped into the ring.

The identity of his opponent has not yet been confirmed.

Taking to Instagram, Fury wrote: "Two years out. One surgery. The hardest battle I've faced has been the mental battle of being away from boxing," he penned. "But I'm back stronger, sharper, and more HUNGARY than ever. May 9th, Budapest... It's showtime. Let's go!".

Fury's last fight was against KSI in Manchester towards the end of 2023. He was scheduled to square off with mixed martial artist Darren Till in January this year but withdrew from the bout in December 2024.

In December, after Till had made threats about using MMA techniques in their fight, Fury explained his decision to pull out: "I can't believe I'm writing this but I am now not fighting Darren Till on January 18," he stated. "For the one simple reason being that Darren has stated over and over that he does not want to abide by professional boxing rules and that if he is losing the fight he will resort to kicking and other stupid MMA tactics.", reports the Mirror.

"I am a professional boxer, I have been out of the ring for over a year and I wanted this to be a great BOXING fight for the fans. I have wasted weeks in training camp. We are working hard to get a new opponent and date. I promise to get a better opponent and better fight for you guys. Good news around the corner."

Fury, who began his professional boxing career in 2018, boasts an undefeated record of 10-0. Most of his victories were won on home soil, with a notable split decision win over Jake Paul in Saudi Arabia in 2023.

In early April, Fury was accused of declining a potential rematch with Paul. "Tommy was offered an unbelievable deal to headline versus Jake on Netflix and they had a false sense of expectations," said Nakisa Bidarian, Paul's promotional partner, speaking to The Sun.

"Jake's not gonna ever offer him that kind of money again. Now if Tommy Fury showed up and said, 'Jake, here is $20million to fight me and I'm gonna make $20million.' Right, all the power to you."

Earlier, Fury had taken to social media to address comments made by Paul about Anthony Joshua. "Good morning, guys. I just wanted to give a little opinion on everything I've been seeing on social media lately.

"Jake Paul versus Anthony Joshua," he stated."

"I just wanted to come on here and remind everybody that, that bum couldn't beat me. When I beat him, I had a broken hand.

"I had one hand and he still lost. Jake Paul, I'm still your daddy and everybody weighing this fight up, don't bother because it ain't worth a shilling.

"And the loss will always be there Mr Paul. Take it easy and have a good day."
