Aston Martin Formula 1 driver Lance Stroll has crashed out of the second practice session ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix, causing a red flag.
The Canadian driver was quick to confirm that he was "OK" over the team radio after crashing into the barriers at the banked Turn 3, although there have been concerns about his wrists as he was holding the wheel at the point of impact.
Stroll broke both wrists in a 2023 cycling accident ahead of the start of the season. Ongoing pain, which had resulted from that original accident, caused him to withdraw from the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix. After another medical procedure, he has confirmed that he is 100% fit for racing.
Daniel Ricciardo broke his metacarpal in a similar incident on the same part of the track during the same session at the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix.
The Aston Martin driver was seen in the garage following the crash and didn't look to be in any pain.
Former F1 driver and Sky Sports F1 analyst Karun Chandhok commented: "It's a place where you have high G and the barrier is not far from the edge of the track. He went in with a lot of speed and the front just didn't turn around. It's good to hear he is OK. He has locked up the front but I think that he was going so fast, a bit of ambition over adhesion."
1997 champion Jacques Villeneuve added:"Even though it's a tight corner, with 18 degrees banking it's a fast corner and there's no run-off. These modern cars are heavy, so the damage is extensive and they will probably have to change the gearbox. Hopefully for them the tub is not damaged."
The crash has caused significant damage to the front right and rear of the AMR25.
With 20 minutes left of the session, Alex Albon caused another red flag as he collided with the wall after understeered at Turn 1. He sustained light damage to the front of the car, but as the car needed to be removed, that brings his FP2 to an end.
